About Cllr Theo Jupp

Cllr Theo Jupp is the Lib Dem candidate to become Oxford East's next MP.

Theo Jupp first moved to Oxford in 2019. He is passionate about solving the housing crisis and building long-lasting green infrastructure to tackle the climate emergency.

Theo offers a genuinely progressive and liberal alternative to a Labour Party which defends austerity policies like the two-child benefit cap and caves in to Conservative culture wars on refugees and transgender people.

Theo, who is a proud dual British-EU citizen, is appalled by the Labour Party's unwillingness to repair the damage of Brexit. He strongly supports Britain immediately rejoining the Single Market and Customs Union and hopes that our country will become a full member of the European Union once again before long.

For Theo, tackling the climate crisis and renewing our transport and energy infrastructure go hand in hand. Theo is calling for local authorities to be given control of local bus services to break the vicious cycle of profit incentives. Theo welcomes East-West Rail, the proposed Oxford-Witney railway, and the reopening of the Cowley Branch Line to passenger traffic — all of which will reduce the number of journeys undertaken on roads. Theo also strongly endorses the Lib Dem commitment to build 380,000 homes per year nationally and campaigns for the liberalisation of planning laws to make insulation and green energy retrofits more accessible to everyone.

Theo supports the international recognition of Palestinian statehood and has long called for an immediate bilateral ceasefire in Gaza. He was delighted to reiterate this call at a multi-faith event organised by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association in Rose Hill in January. Theo strongly supports the Lib Dem call for Britain to sanction Israeli officials who promote illegal settlements in Gaza, and urges politicians to defend the International Criminal Court’s right to seek arrest warrants for Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas leaders on suspicion of war crimes. He believes only a democratic two-state solution on pre-1967 borders will bring peace to the region.

When he is not campaigning or fulfilling his duties as a councillor, Theo teaches languages and literature. He lives in St Ebbe's.
