Pedestrianise Church Way

Local frustration at the inadequate arrangements to keep pedestrians safe on Church Way is building.

This area is pedestrianised from 10am - 4pm but this is poorly enforced and confusing, with cars and vans driving on pavements, ignoring the restrictions and putting pedestrians at risk.

After 4pm motor vehicles treat Church Way as a car park, damaging the paving, trees and signs - despite the 'No Parking at Any Time' signs.

Pedestrians and drivers need clarity and to be able to travel to use our Community facilities and shops safely. It is clear the current arrangement is not working.

Church Way is far from the community space to gather, hold events and for children to play in that the West Way developers promised. This has to change.

We, the undersigned, call on the Botley Development Company and Savills to take the safety of local people, and the viability of our local shopping centre seriously by taking the following action now:

- Apply to the Vale of White Horse District Council for a change in planning permission to pedestrianise Church Way 24/7

- Install bollards either end of Church Way and where the precinct meets Westminster Way, to prevent all but emergency vehicles and planned deliveries from driving through Church way or the precinct

- Enforce the parking restrictions on their site

- Improve signage directing drivers to the free car parking spaces on site
