Don't Delay Democracy in Oxford
Oxford City Liberal Democrats are calling on Labour City Council Leadership to rule out any delay to local elections and to put trust back in local democracy by letting Oxford residents have their say at the ballot box.
Oxford City Labour are considering delaying next year's local elections due to uncertainty around local government reorganisation.
The local Liberal Democrats have raised serious concerns about the impact delaying elections will have on local democracy.
Layla Moran MP and Councillor Chris Smowton, Oxford City Lib Dem Group Leader said:
“It’s disappointing if unsurprising that the Labour City Council is considering delaying City elections.
"With local government reorganisation delayed across the country and democratic mandates fading, voters deserve they say on the local Labour administration and Keir Starmer’s leadership. Democracy delayed is democracy denied.”
