Liberal Democrats stand for a sustainable and fairer Oxford
Oxford will be a safer, cleaner and healthier place for people to live, work and visit, under
plans set out in the Liberal Democrat manifesto for the City Council election.
Lib Dem priorities for Oxford include:
● Investment in housing and infrastructure; creating a fairer and more sustainable, city;
● Making Oxford a safer, cleaner, and healthier place for people to live, work and visit;
● Responding to the nature and climate crisis by promoting a nature-positive city and mitigating and adapting to climate change.
Launching the manifesto, Cllr Chris Smowton, Liberal Democrat City Group Leader, said:
"The Liberal Democrats will prioritise homes over commercial development to address the cost of living crisis Labour have exacerbated. They have failed to deliver enough affordable housing for local people. We want the city council to invest in better housing and community infrastructure."
Better greener, public spaces will support a sustainable city, promoting health of residents, community cohesion and the environment, in the face of fractured politics and a nature and climate crisis.
To create a safer, cleaner city, the Liberal Democrats will take a stronger and more proactive approach to enforcement of standards under the direct responsibility of the city council, such as housing, business regulation, air quality and environmental health.
’’A vote for the Lib Dems is a vote for a fairer, cleaner, safer city that values the contributions of all its people, businesses of all sizes, and the environment.
“Oxford deserves better. For too long, Labour has failed local residents and delivered ever rising housing costs and increased pressure on transport and services.
“Oxford is one city, and it is essential that everyone who lives or works here can thrive.”
Layla Moran, Member of Parliament (MP) for Oxford West and Abingdon.
