On 8 June, Greener Henley, in partnership with Henley Town Council, will host 100 leaders from across Henley’s business, education, health, faith, cultural, sporting and community sectors for a major event focused on strengthening community resilience and preparedness.

The invitation-only event forms part of Great Big Green Week, a nationwide initiative led by the Climate Coalition that encourages communities across the UK to support climate and nature action.

During the event, attendees will view a screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing, followed by a keynote address from national security expert Lieutenant General Richard Nugee.

The evening will explore how escalating climate, infrastructure and geopolitical risks could affect communities like Henley-on-Thames, and why strengthening local resilience, preparedness and community connections is becoming increasingly important. The event will conclude with facilitated small-group discussions exploring what practical preparedness and resilience could look like for Henley.

Greener Henley is also calling on local organisers to host public screenings of The People’s Emergency Briefing film as part of Great Big Green Week. More information is available at www.nebriefing.org.

In addition, Greener Henley will shortly launch Pledge for the Planet, a new online platform where individuals and organisations can publicly commit to practical preparedness and resilience actions during Great Big Green Week. Freddie van Mierlo, MP for Henley and Thame, said:

“I am pleased that Greener Henley and Henley Town Council are bringing together people from across our community to consider how we strengthen resilience in an increasingly uncertain world. Environmental challenges affect everyone, and this event will provide an important forum to discuss how Henley can respond to future risks and opportunities.”
