Lib Dems Ambitious for Oxfordshire

5 Apr 2025

They won five of the seven Oxfordshire seats in last year’s General Election and lead four of the five district councils in the county following massive gains in recent rounds of local elections.

Lib Dem Leader of Oxfordshire County Council, Liz Leffman, said:

“A recent poll by Electoral Calculus for the Daily Telegraph predicted that the Lib Dems would be the largest party, winning 31% of votes across the county compared to the Conservatives on 24%, Reform on 17%, Labour on 16% and the Greens on 9%.”

“They said we would win 30 seats out of 69. We are aiming to out-perform that poll and win an outright majority.”

Lib Dem priorities for Oxfordshire County Council include:

Investing in vital local services including adult social care, Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND), the youth service, children and families, and libraries.

Increased spending on road maintenance to record levels and bringing back annual gully clearance to reduce flooding on local roads.

Making major savings in office, energy and management costs so that the money can be spent on providing front line services.

Councillor Dan Levy, Lib Dem Cabinet Member for Finance and Property said:

“Our track record in our first four years leading the council is a massive contrast with the previous Conservative approach of cuts and closures of vital local services and their policy of deliberate ‘Managed Decline’ of our roads.

“If we win more seats in this coming election we will be able to further increase investment in local services and infrastructure, saving money on backroom costs and ploughing those savings into front-line services.”
