Freddie van Mierlo, MP for Henley and Thame, has welcomed a commitment from Chiltern Railways to reopen the upper deck of the car park at Haddenham & Thame Parkway railway station by March 2027.

During a recent visit to the station, Freddie met with representatives from Chiltern Railways to discuss the long-awaited reopening of the upper deck, which has been closed for several years. Following investigations, the company confirmed that the structural frame of the deck is sound, but the surface requires replacement.

Work is expected to begin in summer 2026 and will include replacing the surface of the deck and installing improved lighting. Chiltern Railways also confirmed that the current number of parking spaces will remain available while the work is carried out.

The meeting also covered wider rail issues affecting local passengers, including service capacity and the potential impact of major rail projects such as HS2, the proposed Cowley Branch Line restoration, and East West Rail.

Freddie van Mierlo MP said:
“I know how frustrating it has been for passengers to see the upper deck closed for so long, so it is good to see Chiltern Railways commit to refurbishing and reopening it. Haddenham & Thame Parkway is a vital station for our area, and I will keep working with them to ensure passengers get the capacity and facilities they need.”
