Reacting to the news today that the Environment Agency has confirmed it will be clearing the illegal waste dump near Kidlington, Calum Miller MP reacted by saying:

“I am delighted that the Government and the Environment Agency have taken on board the responsibility to clear this site. It’s what local campaigners and I have been asking for ever since we became aware of the scale of this dumping next to the River Cherwell. It’s right and proper that National Government recognises that this environmental disaster had to be stopped and that the risk of fire closing the A34 was also a major factor. I look forward now to hearing the timetable by which the site will be cleared, and I want to say a huge thank you to the many local campaigners who have worked with me and others to keep the pressure on the Government to gain this result.”

Laura Gordon, County Councillor for Kidlington North and Otmoor, said:

"I'm over the moon that the Environment Agency have agreed to clear the site and that work on this will begin straight away - given the environmental and fire risks, this is clearly the right decision. This is testament to weeks of work by dozens of local and national campaigners. We now need to keep up the pressure to make sure the clearup happens as soon as possible, the people responsible are held to account, and that the government invests in prevention so that nothing like this happens again."

Gemma Coton, District Councillor for Launton and Otmoor, said:

"It is fantastic news that the Government and Environment Agency have agreed to clear the site. This has been an amazing, community wide effort to push for action. The priority now is that the site is cleared as quickly and safely as possible and that those responsible are held to account."
