Stop Plans to Use MOD Bicester for Asylum Accommodation

We, the undersigned, call on the Home Office to stop its plans to use MOD Bicester to house people seeking asylum. The Government has not properly consulted local residents, has not answered basic questions about the proposal and has not demonstrated that the site is suitable.
The MOD Bicester by the village of Piddington is the wrong location for a large-scale asylum accommodation facility. Asylum seekers should not be accommodated in a semi-derelict MOD storage site with no connection to suitable amenities and public services. Local residents have been given no clear answers about the scale, security arrangements, cost, timetable or impact on the local community and local services.
In 2003, the previous Labour Government put plans for an asylum accommodation centre at this site through a public inquiry. The planning inspector rejected the proposal, saying it was too isolated, there were risks to social cohesion and it would strain local services. Ministers eventually cancelled the plan. This Government should heed that advice and cancel THIS plan.
