The Oxford maternity unit, built in 1972, was described by Baroness Amos as “possibly the worst building she had seen” following her national review of maternity services across the country.

Trust leaders are clear that improvements can only go so far without a new building.

Layla Moran said: “This relic of a building is no longer fit for purpose. We need a new maternity unit to meet increased demand and provide the modern, safe and dignified care that families deserve.”

Layla Moran is demanding funding for new £120m maternity unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
