Sign the Petition to Rebuild the Carterton-Witney-Eynsham-Oxford Railway
For the past five years, our MP Charlie Maynard has been fighting to restore the railway linking Carterton to Oxford via Witney and Eynsham. A train would give us a fast, reliable, green transport solution with Oxford reachable in 9 minutes from Eynsham, 16 from Witney and 22 from Carterton.
West Oxfordshire urgently needs a fast, sustainable and reliable transport link connecting Carterton and RAF Brize Norton, Witney and Eynsham with Oxford and the wider rail network. The A40 is the "foot on the windpipe" of our district, with chronic congestion holding back residents, businesses, public services and economic growth. Passenger rail services to Witney ended in the 1960s, and today Witney and Carterton represent one of the largest populations in England without direct access to the national rail network. That is no longer sustainable.
Restoring a railway would cut congestion and improve access to jobs, education and healthcare. It would also provide a vital transport link to RAF Brize Norton, the UK's largest Royal Air Force station and one of the county's biggest employers, improving transport options for service personnel, civilian staff, contractors and the wider defence sector.
A new railway would also enable better planning by concentrating new homes around well-connected stations, reducing the need for development to be spread across the countryside and helping to protect West Oxfordshire's rural character.
This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reconnect West Oxfordshire to the national rail network. It will unlock sustainable growth, improve quality of life, support RAF Brize Norton and our local economy, and reduce pressure on the A40.
But we need your support to make it happen! Please sign the petition.
